On Friday, March 11 2022, Dept. 1 was dispatched around 10:30am to Box 1-08 in 833 Rt. 362, Shippen Twp. for a reported house fire.
Upon responding, Chief 1-30 was advised that the caller indicated that the house was on fire possibly due to a wood stove.
C1-30 arrived and reported heavy smoke with flames showing from the rear of the home.
Access was restricted due to the long single lane private driveway.
Engine 1-3 w/ Chief 1 arrived and layed 1000’ of supply line from Rt. 362.
Crews immediately went to work using (2) 1 3/4” attack lines.
Upon entering the structure, crews encountered heavy smoke conditions with little to no visabilty, with no visible fire but intense heat.
Crews went to work pulling walls and ceilings finding heavy fire starting at the basement level and had traveled concealed in the wall into the attic area, spreading the length of the home in the void space.
Ladder 1-9 crew went to work quickly to vent the roof finding heavy fire, releasing intense heat and relieving interior conditions for crews to continue an aggressive interior operation.
In all, Dept. 1 responded with Eng. 1-3, Tank. 1-5, Ladder 1-9, Eng. 1-2, Resc. 1-8, Squad 1-8 w/ Utv, Ambul. 1-6.
Many additional mutual aid depts. were also on scene to assist with manpower.
No injuries were reported for any of the occupants.
One firefighter was transported by ambulance to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital after having a medical emergency. Crews operated for about 3 hours before being released from the scene.
